Do you have difficulties with access or custody regarding your grandchildren?
GRAY is a non-profit, confidential association of grandparents who believe that we provide a natural and necessary nurturing role in a healthy family. When that role is blocked, (for whatever reason), everyone loses.
GRAY was successful in changing the Yukon Children's Act to include grandparents' access and custody for consideration as being in the best interests of the child.
A confidential self-help group meets regularly to assist grandparents with problems and questions and someone is available to accompany grandparents to meetings about legal or policy decisions.
GRAY belongs to the Canadian Grandparents' Rights Association, and has contact numbers for similar organizations across Canada.
GRAY'S PURPOSE ARE:
- To promote, support, and assist grandparents and their families in maintaining or re-establishing family ties and family stability, especially those ties between grandparents and grandchildren, where the family has been disrupted for any reason.
- To provide and encourage practical support, publicity, educational events, and printed resources concerning family rights and responsibilities, and relationships between grandparents and grandchildren, for members and the general public.
- To encourage active participation in the legislative process of Canada and the Yukon Territory in order to codify rights of grandparents to obtain access or custody of grandchildren and to entitle grandparents to information from the custodial parents concerning the education, health, and general well being of their grandchildren.
